Filing Street Vending Complaints

How to file a complaint for illegal street vending

We Need Your Help

We are working to encourage the health department to enforce regulations on vending, which are currently being overlooked. To get their attention, they need numerous and continuous neighborhood feedback. Please visit the health department website for detailed instructions on how to file an official complaint. http://www.publichealth.lacounty.gov/eh/business/unpermitted-street-food.htm

Together, we can address this issue effectively. We need to “send up a flare” so that the city recognizes the urgency and takes action.

These are just some of the issues and observations received from neighbors:

  • Vendors relieving themselves in the brush or bushes in park.
  • Vendors setting up in street or on narrow sidewalks not to code for vending.
  • Vendors setting on in areas that block ADA access on sidewalks.
  • Vendors in park using park trash cans for their refuse.
  • Vendors using illegal forms of heating elements for their product (we are a HIGH FIRE DANGER community).
  • Smoking crowds gathering around the vendors in a no smoking permitted area.
  • Dumping unsold fruit (or fruit juice) into storm drains or onto street.
  • Vendor Refuse (empty or unfinished fruit cups, utensils, napkins, etc.) littering neighborhood private property (front lawns, gates, retaining walls and curbs).
  • Fruit vending carts covered and stored overnight throughout the neighborhood.
  • Vendors extending beyond their carts to now include 6 foot tables
